EDC and IBPC strengthen trade relationship to boost exports

Dubai Export Development Corporation (EDC) hosted a seminar for the members of the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC) in Dubai to enhance the business relationship between the two countries.

The forum, attended by more than 100 Indian run, Dubai-based businesses, facilitated Indian exporters to achieve greater successes in their manufacturing, trade and exporting activities from Dubai to India. EDC highlighted the corporation's export promotion and development services to IBPC members, including its advocacy role as Dubai's export support organisation.

"The UAE and India have a long history of trade, economic and cultural links which have flourished through the years. Even before Dubai became known to the rest of the world as the gateway to the Gulf and Central Asian countries, India in particular, a large number of Indian businesses had already established their presence in the UAE. India has now emerged as Dubai's largest export destination for UAE manufactured goods whilst our country is the second largest destination for India's exports,"
said Engineer Saed Al Awadi, Chief Executive Officer, EDC.

"It is among our initiatives to strengthen the country, particularly Dubai's export industry, by supporting businesses operating in the UAE. Through IBPC Dubai, we are able to reach Indian companies firmly established in the Emirates and help them broaden their businesses not only in India but in other parts of the world," he added.

Indian businesses comprise a significant share of exporters from Dubai and both organisations will work together to support Indian exporters explore other markets. During the seminar, IBPC Dubai members were able to learn about EDC's export services and various opportunities outside the country.

"One of the missions of IBPC Dubai is to provide a link between the Indian business community and UAE organisations dedicated to the development of international trade and investments. The EDC seminar conducted is part of our support to Indian companies and professionals to help them establish and enhance their presence, not only in Dubai but in other emerging markets as well,"
said Abbas Ali Mirza, President, IBPC Dubai.

IBPC Dubai was established in 2003, following the unification of the Indian Business Council (IBC), Overseas Indians Economic Forum (OIEF) and Business & Professional Club (BPC). IBPC Dubai is the recognised representative organisation of the Indian business community in the Emirate.

In 2007, India was one of the top importers of Dubai's precious and semi-precious stones including precious metals valued at Dhs11.7bn. Meanwhile, exports of precious and semi-precious stones and precious metals from India to Dubai equalled Dhs21.2bn.
