Department of Municipal Affairs unites National Day events across the emirate

Today, the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA), organized a helicopter tour throughout the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to enable specific regional and international media to attend the three Municipalities' events in Abu Dhabi City, Al Ain City, and Western Region.

The DMA, the regulative and legislative body of the municipal system of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi organized the tour in collaboration with Abu Dhabi City Municipality, Al Ain City Municipality, and Western Region Municipality. The tour will include traditional and cultural celebrations showcasing the rich heritage of Al Ain and the Western Region, and will conclude with an aerial tour of the multitude of celebrations and fireworks displays put on by the municipality of Abu Dhabi City.

H.E. Ahmed Shareef, Undersecretary of the Department of Municipal Affairs commented on the occasion of National Day and the DMA's role in the celebrations saying:
"On the 37th Anniversary of the UAE National Day, we can all be inspired by the values and the remarkable efforts and accomplishments of the late H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the architect of our nation. His contributions and enlightened vision that shaped the birth of our nation have been instilled in our current leaders."


"We can look to the future with great confidence, knowing that our leaders, H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, The Rulers of the Emirates, and Crown Princes will continue to ensure sustainable growth and enable the UAE to make their mark on the global economic map," he added.

Abu Dhabi City, Al Ain City, and Western Region Municipalities' will be hosting a variety of cultural and traditional celebrations within the major urban centers in each region.

Western Region Municipality: has put together a cultural tent including local handcrafts exhibitions, traditional Emirati dancing, a mascot to entertain children and families, a photo exhibition expressing 37years of the union of the UAE, and local artists who will be performing nightly.

Al Ain City Municipality: has constructed a 'National Day Village' which contains stages for live performances, traditional and cultural activities, exhibitions, and will feature nightly shows by Jumana - The Secret of the Desert the imagistics theatre production with stunning audio-visual, water, laser and fire effects and including elaborate acrobatics and a host of spellbinding magical illusions.

Abu Dhabi City Municipality: has organized a wide range of events throughout the city including events at the Corniche beach, celebrations at 6 parks within the city, and the largest fireworks show ever to be staged in the Capital.

International press representatives include BBC, Al Arabiya, Associated Press, along with one local TV crew from Abu Dhabi Television.

The Department of Municipal Affairs' objective is to bridge these events and unite the Emirate in the celebration of the 37th National Day and commemoration of the union of the United Arab Emirates.

The Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) commenced operations in May 2007, following the Abu Dhabi Executive Council's decision to integrate the Emirate's municipal system. As a new government entity, the Department of Municipal Affairs was created to lead, coordinate and oversee three municipalities in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region. The DMA has a regulatory role while the service delivery and operations are at the municipality level.
