  • PRESS RELEASE

1x1 Art Gallery has now opened its' latest collective exhibition of Indian Contemporary Art entitled "November" from the 23rd November to the 22nd December, to be held at the new '1x1 Contemporary' in Al Quoz; a converted warehouse gallery that promises to be the perfect backdrop to exhibit the very best of Indian Contemporary Art.

1x1 has already established itself as the hub of Indian Contemporary Art in the region and once again will be hosting some of the best that Indian Contemporary Art has to offer. Prodigious talents such as Chittrovanu Mazumdar, Riyas Komu, Justin Ponmany, Biju Joze, N N Rimzon, Vivek Vilasini, Hema Upadhyay and Shibu Natesan will be exhibiting their very latest works to the region's art lovers.

1x1 Art Gallery established in 2006 has always been at the forefront of the Indian Art scene, exhibiting modern and contemporary Indian Art.

With a steady calendar of cutting edge exhibitions, which wowed the critics, the gallery set new benchmarks for works in installation and new media. The efforts of Malini Gulrajani, Director, 1x1 Art Gallery have won her plaudits both in India and internationally. Her extensive knowledge of the Indian art milieu has earned her a reputation to be envied. Over the past several years Malini has found herself much in demand as a consultant for serious collectors who are in the process of building up their own private collections.

Art connoisseurs and collectors are set for a visual treat with these latest works, with pieces from the likes of Chittrovanu Mazumdar certain not to disappoint. Last year saw Mazumdar's Warehouse Project declared the "Exhibition of the Year" by Time Out Magazine. Mazumdar chose to exhibit his works in the arid flatlands of a Dubai warehouse especially constructed for the project and was deconstructed thereafter.

Bose Krishnamachari's work is reinforced by a `here and now' understanding and awareness of contemporary culture and it borrows effortlessly from such various disciplines as literature and design.

N N Rimzon is famous for his energized sculptures achieved by various contradictions of size, colour and setting. Biju Joze uses a variety of media ranging from steel, fibreglass and locally sourced organic material like betel leaves, arca nut and tobacco leaves to arrive at the architecture of the organic. Vivek Vilasini's work seems to capture the flavour of the "serving-hatch" world of globalization. He explains that his goal is not to debate its benefits and drawbacks, but simply to describe it.

The works of all these exciting artists are a must-see for the art loving community throughout November and December, the exhibition promises to be a visual masterpiece.

"It has been a real pleasure to put together this collective exhibition of such differing and exciting artists,"

Malini Gulrajani commented on the upcoming exhibition.

"The South Asian art scene is continuing to create real interest globally with galleries in Europe and North America beginning to bring Indian Art to local collectors through exhibitions and we are pleased to keep the trend going in Dubai and throughout the Middle East."
