DM launches National Day celebrations

In an atmosphere marked with patriotic fervor, Dubai Municipality kicked off its festivities to mark the 37th National Day of the UAE that will include a wide range of events to be held over a span of four days at different locations.

Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, along with senior officials and staff of the municipality as well as several customers and general public, cut a cake marked with the four colours of the national flag, heralding the festivities.

As many as 40 students from the Greenwood International School then put up a spectacular show of patriotic songs and folkloric performances. Six year old Noora delivered a fluent speech in English highlighting why she is extremely proud of being a UAE national and hailing the great accomplishments of the nation.

The activities also included several heritage features of the country such as popular traditional dishes, a painting exhibition by artists from the Culture and Science Forum, a handicraft exhibition by members of the Dubai Club for Special Sports, and distribution of national flags, sweets, badges, shawls and scarves all designed in national flag colours to the male and female staff of the municipality as well as its customers.

As part of the celebrations, the municipality staff participating in National March from Jumeira Beach Park to Union Square will be transported from the municipal headquarters to the venue.

Meanwhile, the Public Parks and Horticulture Department at Dubai Municipality has lined up a variety of activities to mark the 37th National Day which will be held in all public parks from 1 to 4 December.

A National Day Parade will be held on Tuesday, 2 December at Mamzar Park with the participation of the UAE folklore troupes, Dubai Drums and demonstration troupes. The parade, which will start at 4.30pm and end by 6pm will also have fireworks display.

Al Mamzar Park will host the same day a Marathon contest, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Social Development from 4pm until 8pm, in addition to stage shows from 7pm until 11pm. The activities will include horse show, folklore troupe show, fireworks display, heritage tent and Dubai Drums show. Zaabeel Park will host stage shows organized by Media Development Authority during 1-3 December at the traditional theatre in the park from 7pm until 11pm. The activities will include opera, Noble Wedding, heritage shows, dance drama, promotional and entertainment shows and raffle draws with prizes to the audience. The Creekside Park will host during 1-4 December a number of stage shows on the occasion of the National Day.

The programmes, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Social Development, include music concert by Hussain Al Jasmi, Faiz Al Saeed, Fatima (Zahrat Al Ain) and Mohammed Al Mazroui, folklore art, army band, international carnival for children and international folklore shows from 5pm until 11pm. The Jumeirah Beach Park will host during 1-3 December free painting competition for children, which will be held opposite Gate No.3 from4pm until 8pm.

Several activities have also been lined up by the Public Libraries Department and the Children's City.
