Dubai Chamber organizes week-long training programme on intellectual property for benefit of its stakeholders

As part of its strategy to support and protect the interests of the business community, Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry in association with the Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP) organised a week-long training programme from November 22 to 29 in Trademarks and Unfair Competition at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dubai.

Conducted by three of the experts from ASIP including Mr. Maher Hamdan, a legal expert, Dr. Fayyad Al Qudah, a lawyer and lecturer and Judge Nihad Al Husban, a specialist working in Intellectual Property and Commercial Law in the court of First Instance of Amman, Jordan, the training course was attended by Trademarks owners, Professionals in the field of marketing and advertising, Administrators of trademarks and intellectual property managers, Lawyers and legal advisers, Trademarks Registration Agents, Government officials responsible for registration of trademarks and individuals interested in the management of trademarks.

Jehad Kazim, Director, Legal Services Department, Dubai Chamber, said:
"With the increasing globalization of trade, intellectual property has become one of the main themes in the modern economic policies, and here lies the importance of knowledge of modern principles governing intellectual property issues and awareness of the latest international developments in this area."


Kazim added, "This training will provide the participants a solid and real understanding of the principles and procedures for trademark registration and rights granted in addition to the phenomenon of unfair competition and applications. Trademarks today are considered one of the most valuable business tools therefore it's important for the business community to identify and examine important trends and issues related to brand security and management as well as the intellectual property rights and protection."

ASIP was established in Munich, Germany on February 23, 1987 as an Arab non-governmental organization to support and develop the intellectual property system through mass awareness, education and the promotion of various awareness of the need for international protection of intellectual property among those in the Arab world and the development of laws in line with the provisions of the Paris Convention for 1883 and subsequent charters in the area of protection for the benefit of professionals and consumers, producers and the economic community in general.

ASIP is a consulting member of the Economic and Social Council of United Nations (ECOSOC), an observer member of the World Intellectual Property Organization WIPO.
