  • Saudi Arabia: Wednesday, December 03 - 2008 at 08:23

Saudi Telecom is launching its first venture into another Middle Eastern country with its new Kuwaiti operation, Viva, which will start mobile phone services today, 3 December, reported MEED. Saudi Telecom paid $906m for its 26% stake in Viva, which will bring an end to the duopoly between Zain and Wataniya, two Kuwaiti companies that have used the Kuwaiti market as a base from which they have expanded into other Middle Eastern countries. Viva is targeting a 10% share of the Kuwaiti market within its first 12 months and a 30% share within its first 10 years.
