QTEA is promoting Qatar to the important European market, by focusing on buyers from Meetings, Incentive, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) and leisure sector, among them conference and exhibitions organisers, business people and boards of tourism authorities.

Qatar Tourism & Exhibitions Authority has developed Qatar into a leading world-class event destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE). Business travelers can enjoy in Qatar key conferences along with world-scale exhibitions, all year-round. 95% of travellers to Qatar come on a business visit or to attend an international conference or one of the various exhibitions held in the country.

For 2008, around 100 conferences and exhibitions were scheduled, on topics such as oil and gas, economics, finance, real-estate development, medical equipment and research. Doha also hosts a wide range of main diplomatic and cultural conferences, having a global impact, such as the annual dialogue between religions.

Speaking on the first day of EIBTM, Mr Ahmed A. Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Qatar Tourism & Exhibitions Authority, commented:
"It is very pleasing to see so many companies and countries are interested in working with Qatar to further promote our country as a leading MICE destination. Our attendance at the EIBTM and the meetings we have will help us meet our projected 20% growth in new travellers to Qatar over the next five years."

The Qatar Tourism & Exhibitions Authority is accompanied by a high level delegation, including several Qatar tourism officials and organisations such as Qatar MICE Development Institute and Qatar National Convention Centre, members of Qatar Foundation, and major travel and accomodation Qatari companies.

Staged annually in Barcelona, the Global Incentive and Meetings Exhibition is a three day business to business event presenting a diverse range of destinations, products and services from 3,300 suppliers representing over 160 countries. The event is a unique opportunity for the travel trade to meet, network, negotiate and conduct business at one venue.
