Egypt lifts ban on doctors working in Saudi

  • Egypt: Thursday, December 04 - 2008 at 09:07

Egypt has lifted a ban imposed last month on its doctors taking up jobs in Saudi Arabia after two Egyptian doctors working there were ordered jailed and flogged in the kingdom. Egypt's labor minister, Aisha Abdel-Hadi, lifted the ban after assurances from the Saudi government that Egyptian doctors would get contracts guaranteeing treatment equal to that of their Saudi counterparts. The two Egyptian physicians were tried and found guilty of illegally selling pharmaceuticals in Saudi Arabia. One was also found guilty of having affairs with his patients. In addition to lashes, they were sentenced to 15 and 20 years in prison.
