"Quality, Health, Safety and Environment concerns are integral to the way we conduct business. Our ISO certifications demonstrate our commitment to QHSE policies and procedures, quality of service to our customers and commitment to minimizing our impact on the environment,"
says John Neale, Managing Director of Dulsco.
The QHSE flag was raised by Mr. Abdul Aziz Mohammad Khan Abdulla, Chairman, Dulsco and a senior employee at Dulsco Village; the employee accommodation in Dubai.
"On the opening day, the fire fighting competition was held in which employees from all over the UAE participated with vigour and enthusiasm. Each team had prepared well and used the fire fighting techniques with élan. I felt they were in no way less than professional fire fighters. First, second and third prizes were awarded for this event," comments Mohammed Ayub, Senior Manager for QHSE at Dulsco.
At different Dulsco locations around the UAE, several training camps on topics such as general safety, manual handling, forklift safety, excavation safety, electrical safety, fire safety, confined spaces safety, defensive driving, personal protection equipment training, etc were conducted through out the week. In addition, all Dulsco offices including Doha, participated in emergency evacuation drills.
QHSE quiz was conducted as a fun way to test the awareness of the employees. Among the various competitions was the challenging Hazard Spotting competition where a video clip of a workplace situation was shown and participants were to identify the hazards associated with it. Prizes for all the competitions were awarded on the closing day.
Blood Donation Drives were organized at Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. Safe blood saves lives. The donated blood is commonly used to help women with pregnancy complications, children with severe anaemia - often resulting from malaria or malnutrition, accident victims and surgical and cancer patients. There were about 114 blood donors from Dulsco.
On the evening of November 27, there was a health camp, in which a team of three doctors (an ophthalmologist and two general practitioners) along with two pharmacists, two male nurses and five medical volunteers helped in diagnosing and prescribing health requirements to Dulsco employees in Dubai. 170 employees utilized the opportunity; this included employees who had travelled from other emirates too.
"Dulsco believes that an organisation is pursuing excellence when it journeys beyond measuring financial results, and places an emphasis on non-financial indicators, such as its human capital, customer focus, quality, health, safety, environment, social orientation, communication and a host of other initiatives and practices.
The QHSE week creates quality, health and safety awareness among our employees and also help in growing the safety culture in the company," says Johnson Alexander, Director of Human Resources and QHSE of Dulsco.
According to officials, immediately after the QHSE week, Dulsco will commence an environmental awareness programme where it will implement a strategic plan to decrease the consumption of water and electricity within the organization.
