Members of Parliament experience recent achievements in Telecom

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology hosted a gathering for members of the Parliament, Committee of Transport and Telecom.
Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Ahmed Nazif presented the Ministry's recent accomplishments, highlighting various projects, such as Egypt's unique Free Internet Model - Internet at the cost of the local call, available on every phone line; PC in every home initiative; and the fixed line tariff rebalance creating fairness in billing between rural areas and cities; as well as the various ongoing activities for postal reform.
Chairman of Telecom Egypt (TE) presented the Company's achievements announcing the existence of 10.5m fixed lines and the constant efforts for upgrading the telecom network. Moreover, TE plans to increase the teledensity to reach 17% by 2006. To increase penetration of telecom services in rural areas, TE announced a 50% reduction for installation fees as of Oct 23, 02. A similar reduction is now offered to all exchanges with existing free capacity.
