- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, December 06 - 2008 at 10:50
- PRESS RELEASE
The Middle East is an exciting untapped region with huge significance in terms of 21st century design, according to the founder of the world's largest and most distinguished design competition.
More than 80 products from 19 countries, winners of the red dot design award, are being presented for the first time at Index which runs until Sunday 7 December 2008. Zec, who took part in a book signing session today (Friday 7 December 2008) during a special evening opening of Index, expects products from the Arab world to receive red dot awards in the future.
"The Middle East is an exciting region with lots of potential and huge significance for 21st century design," said Peter Zec. He believes presenting to an international audience gives companies taking part a unique opportunity to tap new markets. He was signing copies of the annual international yearbook for the red dot design award, a popular reference work for industry trends.
The red dot design award dates back to 1955. With around 11,000 entries from over 60 nations, the award is now the world's largest and most distinguished design competition. It breaks down into three disciplines: product design, communication design and design concept.
The world's major suppliers of furniture, fixtures and fittings are taking part in Index. Nearly 1800 companies from 60 countries are exhibiting in this year's event, which runs until Sunday 7 December 2008. Index is open each day to professionals and trade visitors. The show is open to the general public after 5 pm. There is a special evening opening from 5-10 pm on Friday 5 December.
