Finalists' creations will also be showcased at BurJuman from December 20 to 27, 2008.
"The fashion show has become a landmark event for budding and also established designers. This year we chose the theme of freedom to reflect the hopes of people all over the world for peace and freedom in society, especially in times of change."
said Sabina Khandwani, Head of PR and Marketing, BurJuman.
This year, 18 finalists have been selected to take part in the contest, which has two categories: the Amateur Category which is open to all emerging talent and the Professional Category for designers with at least three years of fashion experience.
The competition aims to bring creativity to the fore and challenges designers to come up with original, exceptional and artistic designs.
As the UAE's avant-garde fashion show, Runway Art offers talented designers a platform to display their unique creations.
"We were impressed with the amazing submissions we received and our judging panel of fashion experts will certainly have a difficult task choosing the winner," added Khandwani.
The finalists, who will prepare new entries for the show, will be judged on their creativity, uniqueness, craftsmanship, material and fabrics used, as well as the overall presentation and catwalk appeal.
Last year's winners were Angello De Vesus in the professional category and Rollan David Manuel in the amateur category.
Apart from providing recognition in the fashion industry, the contest gives winners a cash incentive to continue in designing their works.
