Carol Maddison, Marketing Manager for VisitBritain UAE, said:
"London is one of the best shopping destinations in the world and the holiday season is the best time of year to take advantage of great deals. The current economic climate has encouraged UK retailers to cut prices even further, with special discounts available at nearly every store."
A favourite among Middle East shoppers, Harrods offers one of the most famous holiday sales in the world. Thousands converge at the exclusive retailer every year to land a designer bargain, snap up a signature Christmas hamper and take a peek at the retail institution's famous holiday windows.
In January, sales will be in full swing, with massive discounts of up to 80% on nearly everything including clothing, electronics, furniture and lifestyle products. Some brands have even decided to offer discounts ahead of the New Year, hoping to ramp up sales and stimulate demand amid a slower retail climate.
The winter holidays are typically the busiest time of year for London retailers, with department stores such as Selfridges, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser and Debenhams offering both pre and post Christmas clearance sales.
Last year, the UK welcomed 514,000 travellers from the Middle East, spending a total of Dhs5.4bn on shopping. Middle East residents can enjoy tax free shopping in the UK, reclaiming the VAT spent on purchases made during their stay.
