Spices make a big boost at ATF 2008

Besides making food taste great, research shows spices can promote health and well being including anti-aging and inhibiting of degenerative disease.
Spices have more antioxidant power that help prevent cancer, Alzheimer's disease, heart disease, and pre-mature aging.
The spices with the greatest effects were cloves, cinnamon, allspice, apple pie spice, and pumpkin pie spice; top herbs included marjoram, sage and thyme. Study also revealed that cumin and fresh ginger make the most significant contribution to antioxidant capacity.
Another study from the Journal of Medicine and Food also revealed that effects of red chili, cumin, and black pepper suppressed the onset of colon cancer. It further revealed that the effects of essential oils from black thyme, cumin, fennel, marjoram, mint, oregano, pickling herb, sage, savory and thyme showed antibacterial activity.
Researchers concluded that essential oils of some spices may be used as antimicrobial agents to prevent the spoilage of food, thus making them last for a period of time without refrigeration and safe.
On December 10-12, two Yemeni companies, namely, Manhl Al Yemen and Ardhl Ganatem Trading will showcase a wide range of spices and herbal products at the country's biggest consumer exhibition, ATF.
"Food enthusiasts, chefs and home makers, suppliers and distributors should check out a wide variety of spices during the 10-day show,"said Mr. Hassan Mohamed, Sr. Manager - Festivals.
ATF is Eid's ultimate shopping extravaganza, being organized by Oman International Trade and Exhibitions (OITE) for eighteen consecutive years.
ATF provides a great venue for both local and international enterprises, from micro to large, to showcase their brands at best prices. International exhibitors are coming from various countries, including India, Pakistan, UAE, Egypt, Syria, Kuwait, Yemen, Jordan, Lebanon, Bahrain, Singapore, Malaysia, Kenya and the Sultanate of Oman.
