According to Display Search, the leading industry researcher, Samsung recorded sales of 8.94 million units of TV with revenue of $6.47bn in the Q3 2008, giving it a market share of 16.7% and 22.5% respectively.

This performance consolidated Samsungs number one position in the world market, who consequently recorded the most units sold for the last nine quarters and has lead in revenue for the last 11 quarters.

Samsung also became the first company to capture 5.39 million units sold and 20.2% of the market share for LCD televisions which Samsung has now maintained No 1 LCD ranking for nine consecutive quarters.

Samsung achieved more than 14.36 million sales of LCD TV to date and is confident of reaching the milestone of 20 million sets for the year.

To break down the Q3 market share in the world LCD TV market, Samsung topped it with a 20.2% share followed by Sony (13.8%), Sharp (10.2%), LG (9.3%) and Philips (7.0%).

"Amid the aggravating global market environment Samsung recorded the highest quarterly sales performance in the LCD TV market on the back of differentiated products and various marketing activities. Also, we expect to smoothly achieve the annual sales goal of 20 million units this year. However, we will not be complacent with this remarkable outcome even if we are sure to top the market for three consecutive years. We will work harder to make better products in return for our consumers' trust in us."

said Mr. Chiwon Suh, the president of Samsungs Middle East & Africa Headquarters.

Closer to home in the Middle East and Africa, Samsung continues this leadership trend by maintaining no.1 position in sales revenue for TV with 30.59% market share.

LCD TV also continues to grow strongly ahead of expectation, with Samsung capturing top spot with 37.6% revenue market share and 35.14% sales volume in the region.

GFK, market researcher for retail performance, indicates that Samsung enjoys pole position in key regional markets for LCD TV when reviewing revenue achieved for the first three quarters of 2008.

Meanwhile Samsung ranked no.1 in the LCD TV market share with unit sales reflected as follows: GCC States-33% (Saudi-41%, UAE-25%), Iran-40%, Morocco - 49%, Algeria - 38%, South Africa - 25%. Furthermore Samsung became market leader in Turkey from September with sales quantity of 19% and revenue of 23%.
