Held recently at the Millennium School, the concert titled 'We Are the World' was preceded by a graduation ceremony for some of Manzil's students who successfully completed their transitional and vocational training programmes. The graduating students were awarded certificates by chief guest Harry Hanscomb, Chief Operating Officer, Middle East and Africa, Zurich International Life.
In his acceptance speech, Uday Pradeep, one of the graduating students, said: "I am grateful to Manzil for giving me the opportunity and training I need to get a job, which would not have been possible otherwise."
The concert, set against a backdrop of spectacular visuals from Dubai's Global Village, the culture and entertainment destination for families, was played out by students of Manzil to a packed audience of parents, Manzil's staff and other dignitaries. The musical presentation depicted children embarking on a fast paced journey across diverse cultures underlining the universal aspiration of a united world.
Soud Ba'alawy, Executive Chairman, Dubai Group and Chairman of Manzil, said:
"This is a deeply satisfying moment for Dubai Group, which is earnestly committed to helping people who are challenged to help themselves. Our graduates today have demonstrated that with faith, determination and hard work, they can look forward to living their lives with dignity and freedom, as fully contributing members of society."
Manzil provides educational and adaptive living skills programmes for individuals with special needs in the areas of learning, behaviour and development. The centre imparts the requisite self-help, social, educational and vocational skills to help integrate students into the mainstream society.
Through various avenues such as raising funds, supporting students, and the direct contribution of its personnel power, Dubai Group has been actively supporting Manzil since its inception in 2005, creating awareness about Manzil's community-oriented services.
