3M empowers regional drivers to be eco-friendly and save money

  • PRESS RELEASE

3M launches a new product that enables GCC motorists to decrease their carbon footprint while saving money - an advantage particularly pertinent to the region, as residents seek to cut their expenses in the challenging economic environment.

3M's Crystalline Automotive Window Films reduce the heat and glare from the sun that penetrate a car's windows, by blocking out 99.9% of harmful UV rays and 97% of UV ultraviolet rays, with a total Sun Protection Factor (SPF) that exceeds 1700.

In total, the film reduces heat gain by as much as 50%, thus reducing the need for AC to keep the car's driver and passengers cool. This means less fuel needs to be burned and therefore less carbon will be emitted. This is especially important for vehicles such as SUVs that contain more glass, and thus require more AC during the year-round sunshine.

"Research has found that alongside ensuring tyres are correctly inflated and that unnecessary weight is removed from the car, these simple steps could see the average motorist saving a whole month's worth of fuel over the course of a year, while at the same time reducing carbon emissions,"

said Walid Feghali, Country Business Leader, 3M Safety Security & Protection Services.

"3M has long been committed to environmental sustainability - even before this came to the forefront of the world's conscience. As part of this, we are continually seeking to help individuals and organizations reduce their impact on the environment and save natural resources."

In recognition of 3M's commitment to sustainability, the company is consistently included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which tracks the performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. 3M leads the diversified industrial sector of the Index because of the company's deep and far reaching sustainability programmes.

3M offers thousands of market leading branded products - that facilitate everyday life including Post-it, Nexcare and Scotch-Brite - across the region.
