The two sides also discussed a number of business and investment issues of interest. Sheikh Tariq Al Qassimi said the bilateral meeting was fruitful and comes at a critical time in the US and world economy.
Al Qassimi added:
"We are carefully studying the impact of the global financial crisis on the investment sector in the United States of America, and the effects of the solutions proposed by President-elect Barack Obama to the business community and to decision makers in the US to address the financial recession."
In his statement on the occasion of Sheikh Tariq Al Qassimi's visit, Mayor Booker said: "The visit of Sheikh Al Qassimi to Newark's City Hall is an important occasion, due to the reputation of Emirates Investments Group and the role the Group plays on an international scale. We have discussed a number of issues of mutual concern, and we are confident that these meetings will result in joint ventures in numerous sectors."
Emirates Investments Group is studying several investment opportunities in the dynamic logistics sector in the city of Newark, which enjoys a solid logistics infrastructure. Over 35 million passengers use Newark International Airport annually, while the city's ports handled over 2.6 million containers last year.
The city is also a renowned educational hub with over 60.000 students at higher educational institutions including New Jersey Institute of Technology, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and the colleges of law and juridical sciences, among other educational institutes.
