Sahara receives award for sponsoring 20th International Conference on Microelectronics (ICM)

Sahara Group received an honorary award for sponsoring the 20th International Conference on Microelectronics (ICM), being held at the University of Sharjah's College of Engineering from 15 to 17 December 2008.

The award was presented by H.E. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), on behalf of H.H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

Sahara's sponsorship of the conference is in line with the group's vision of supporting scientific and engineering activities in the UAE, particularly in the emirate of Sharjah. Sahara Branch Manager, Mr Bassam N. Dean, who accepted the award on behalf of the Group, said:

ICM 2008 was organized by the University of Sharjah and the University of Waterloo, Canada, in cooperation with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and is being held in the emirate of Sharjah for the first time this year, having been hosted in several countries in the Middle East and Asia during the past 19 years. The event attracts scientists and engineers from all over the globe to engage in workshops and open discussions in an open communication environment.

Discussion topics at the conference are related to microelectronics and nanotechnologies, their use in communication and information technology, and the application of wireless communication systems and microelectronics design via computers, as well as the future of these technologies. ICM also showcases the latest electrical and electronic and digital technologies, and specialists are presenting courses and lectures on the current challenges facing the electricity, energy and electronics market.
