  • PRESS RELEASE

Stealing the spotlight at the Abu Dhabi International Motor Show, which opened earlier today, the Renault Laguna coupé will set new standards in the sports convertible market, according to Mohamed Bennani, Managing Director of Renault GCC.

Making its GCC premiere, the striking white top-of-the-range grand tourer coupé was unveiled alongside three brand new models also being introduced in the region - Renault Symbol (spacious sedan popularly known as Clio), Mégane Exception (top of the range Megane series coupe) and Logan (economical compact sedan)- which are available across dealers in the UAE.

"The Laguna coupé is an exceptional vehicle that has won admiration from motor sports enthusiasts worldwide and I have often been asked when this coupé will be brought here. The Laguna coupe is a true manifestation of Renault's core values of sport, fun and safety and once this roadster hits the city's streets in mid 2009, I am confident that it will evoke a sense of pride among its owners,"

added Bennani.

Other models on display at the Renault stand, located in Hall 11A, include the recently launched Safrane which has received an overwhelming response across the region; popular hot hatch Clio Renault Sport, Renault's striking F1 show car and the French manufacturer's first 4x4 - Koleos, which will be launched in early 2009.

Bennani said: "Renault now has a firm position in the automotive market with options for the buyer in almost every segment. We intend to continue our strategy to expand our network across the GCC and will continue to launch new models, despite the global economic downturn."

Bennani pointed out that Renault was planning new showrooms in Al Ain and Musaffah in Abu Dhabi with the support of local dealers Al Masaood Automobiles while a new showroom in Deira, Dubai with importer Arabian Automobiles is expected to open its doors soon.

In addition, all Renault models sold across the Gulf benefit from a comprehensive customer care programme called 'Customer First'. The programme has been designed to provide buyers with 11 essential complimentary services both before and following the purchase of any Renault vehicle, including a 3-year or 100,000km worldwide car warranty.

Laguna Coupe has been developed jointly by Renault engineering and specialists from Renault Sport Technologies to deliver the ultimate in dynamic sporting performance, as well as astonishing maneuverability at low speed. Under the bonnet of Renault Laguna Coupe, the torque of the petrol 3.5 V6 powerplant, which is combined for the first time with the six-speed automatic transmission, is 330Nm, while maximum power is 240hp (175kW).

Mégane Exception - a top-of-the-range coupe convertible - will be sold as a limited edition in the UAE. Its nocturnal black body colour is exclusive, while its 17-inch alloy wheels, bi-tone leather interiors and chrome roof arch cabin make the car both distinguished and sporty. The Mégane Exception is available in 2.0l 16V 140hp engine.

Koleos - Renault's first 4x4 vehicle - marks a decisive step in the brand's development, not only in the region but across the world. The Koleos will feature a 2.5l engine with automatic transmission offering drivers a comfortable and easy drive along with genuine off-road capability.

Renault Logan, already a worldwide success, supports a 1.6 87hp, 5-speed manual transmission. Robustness, ample interior room and ease of maintenance are key features of the model which combines generous torque with thrifty fuel consumption. This car will also be sold in the GCC with a 1.6 16V 110hp engine (automatic gearbox) in the 1st half of 2009.

The Symbol will consolidate the French manufacturer's position in the compact sedan market. The car is powered by a 1.4 16V petrol engine along with features such as four-speed automatic transmission, elegant design and excellent road handling.

Held once every two years, the Abu Dhabi International Motor Show takes place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from December 17-21, 2008 from 4pm to 10pm.
