The Lifebook T5010 from the company's business notebook line will come equipped with anti-theft protection.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers is putting an end to the problem with its latest security package based on the latest anti-theft technology from Intel and Computrace.

For the first time the company has presented a notebook from its Lifebook series that uses the security solutions SystemTrack and DataProtect - two solutions based on a new anti-theft protection solution that features technology by Intel and Computrace. Fujitsu Siemens Computers is one of only two manufacturers in EMEA who already offer such innovation in its current notebook range. The complex anti-theft protection will be available as an option in the ESPRIMO Mobile models in the business line and in the Lifebook T5010 and Lifebook E8420.

Anti-theft protection has two main functions: tracking stolen or lost hardware and the option of saving or, if necessary, deleting data in the system's hard disk via a centrally operated remote control. It is also possible to lock the notebook via a remote control function. Fujitsu Siemens Computers provides the entire security solution package from a single source.

"By integrating this security solution the region's IT infrastructure providers will have no problems meeting the increasingly stringent requirements of its customers who want effective security concepts and company data protection,"

explains Haseeb Soleja, Product Manager, Mobility Products, Fujitsu Siemens Computers.

"Dialog with our customers and our own surveys have shown us that data security is one of the top concerns for the Middle East's company IT managers when it comes to implementing a mobility strategy. The reliable protection of sensitive data is therefore something which tops list of features that we have added to our business notebooks. The anti-theft protection solution provides us with a complex and reliable protection mechanism against theft and data loss; it excellently complements our high-value notebooks and our already existing portfolio of security solutions," added Soleja.

According to a survey carried out by the Poneman Institute in June 2008, more than 50% of all business travellers have confidential company data on their notebook and 65% do not take any security precautions at all against loss or theft. The rate in 2006 alone rose by 84% compared with the previous year.

The security solutions SystemTrack and DataProtect will already be available from the first quarter 2009 in selected Lifebook models and in all business line models of the ESPRIMO Mobile series. Fujitsu Siemens Computers is using this two-module approach to respond precisely to the different requirements of large enterprises as well as small and medium-sized business. The loss of hardware due to theft is particularly bitter in small companies and in the SoHo sector: the number of notebooks is usually low and new acquisitions are expensive. SystemTrack tracks stolen hardware in real time and detects its location as soon as the device is connected to the Internet or Intranet. The devices can even be recovered in this way.

DataProtect is used for particularly sensitive data; an application that is of immense significance particularly for medium-sized and large companies. In the corporate environment the loss of precious data is especially distressing. Or, even worse data theft, which can cost a company millions. Thanks to DataProtect the support desk can access the system and save the confidential data centrally in the system - or, if necessary, completely delete such data. And, what is also important, the help desk can render the hardware useless via a so-called "kill pill". If the device is returned to the customer, he can remove the protection and boot the system again using a special password.

The anti-theft protection solution offered by Fujitsu Siemens Computers will be available in selected models from the first quarter 2009.
