Held on 17 December at the Dubai Press Club, the first Google webmaster event facilitated greater understanding of the search engine technology and highlighted ways for web publishers to maximize their visibility on the internet.

The Google webmaster event additionally focused on the increasingly important role of online space in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Malek Al Malek, Executive Director of Dubai Internet City, said:
"The high profile collaboration with Google demonstrates our dedication to continuously strengthen our Business Partners' expertise in the IT sector, while contributing to Dubai's relentless drive for creating a knowledge-based economy. In today's competitive marketplace, maintaining strong internet visibility is crucial for the success of any company, blogger or news site. The event helped equip webmasters with the skills necessary to propel their site to the forefront of search engine rankings and consequently drive traffic to their websites."

Husni Khuffash, Country Business Development Manager, Google, said:
"Whether you are a company looking to increase your online revenue, or a blogger wishing to widen the readership of your blog, understanding how search engines function and how to make your website 'search engine-friendly' will positively impact your bottom line."

Husni added, "We are confident this inaugural event provided webmasters with a better understanding of Google's approach to web search for maximizing their online presence through using the myriad tools at their disposal."

The webmaster event is another example of the level of cooperation between DIC and Google since the ICT cluster hosted the leading search engine provider's debut participation at its stand at the Gitex Technology Week 2008, one of the world's largest IT exhibitions.
