In 1975, the Kuwait Government took over 100% of the Kuwait Oil Company, which was established in 1934. The Company activities had extended to include exploration operations, on-shore and offshore surveys, drilling of test wells, and developing of producing fields in addition to crude and natural gas exploration.
Oil was found in commercial quantities in the Burgan Field in 1938. In June 1946 His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the late Amir of Kuwait, inaugurated the export of the first crude shipment. Super light crude oil was discovered at Sabriya in 2005. The discovery of the API 52 crude oil represents a big jump in the company's exploration abilities.
In 2006, gas was discovered in the deep Jurassic reservoirs at Rahiya, Mutriba, Um Niga and other fields. These discoveries fulfill a long Kuwaiti dream of becoming self-sufficient in gas which will be used for power generation.

RECSO is therefore involved in many activities that help increase awareness of the situation and help to seek solutions for the many problems that our region faces. One of these activities is a conference, which we host every 2 years called 'Offshore Arabia'. This conference focuses on bringing regional and international experts and dignitaries to discuss the latest technologies, innovations made in the field of the environment and solutions available to tackle them. The conference's theme, 'Global Partners for Energy and Environment', reflects RECSO's objective.
