- PRESS RELEASE
STC, through its continuous efforts to develop and expand its international network, the Company announced that it was able to overcome the severe cutoff of the three cables in the Mediterranean sea, Alexandria and Italy, known as the cable's crisis, which affected international audio and internet services in the region.
STC international network is considered the most developed and advanced in the region, and is known as the first communications provider to use marine cable technology in telecommunications.
The Company began with the first generation of the continental marine cable (SEA ME WE 1) in 1986, which was functioning using copper technology. These technologies were further developed and today fiber optics (DWDM) technology is used as an industry standard, STC is also the largest supplier of internet services in the region and using the biggest internet gateways (10 GB/S), and is considered the largest in the region.
The connection process of STC's local internet with global internet gateways is set up through international routes via all functioning marine cables and through a series of stations and points East and West. These capacities are distributed to the internet centers in Riyadh and Jeddah that are linked to self-protection routers connecting the Kingdom's internet network with the various international service providers thus achieving more quality and consistency of service.
STC's multiple systems and capabilities coupled with its ability to contain and situation and provide quick alternative solutions to sustain the service, enabled it in record time to resume communications and redirect movement though these available capacities and huge reserves using cables heading to the East in addition to satellite contact. Doing so, STC ensured that Al Jawal customers subscribed to Jawalnet services do not get affected by the internet cutoff and continue to browse the internet, download data and files as well as email with no limit or restriction. All of this is possible through STC's wireless high-speed internet services and with the ability to send and receive short messages.
STC also provided some neighboring countries some support to resume internet services during previous and current crises using the internet gateway centers in Riyadh and Jeddah, which are the two key gateways in the region.
STC is linked with neighboring countries through a local fiber optics network with various paths and capacities that includes UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Qatar, Yemen, Iraq and Oman.
STC was recently named 'Best Wholesaler of the Year' in the Middle East at the annual Telecommunications Awards.
