The released was announced today by Al Waseet Co For Advertising and Publishing, the subsidiary of Al Waseet International, Guinness's official representative in the Middle East and North Africa. The press conference was held at Conrad Hotel in Aida Ballroom and witnessed the attendance of the tallest man in the United States of America George Bell who is 223 Centimeters.

It was also the occasion to launch the campaign for the search of the tallest man in Egypt.

Myriam Hoballah, Guinness's Regional Manager for the Middle East and North Africa, expressed her elation at the release of the third Arabic-language edition, echoing her foundation's eagerness to follow up on the success of the first two editions.

She added that the 2009 edition highlighted all world records set in the Arab world, including the largest ribbon in support of the breast-cancer awareness campaign in Dubai, most seafood prepared in an open-air setting in Kuwait, the largest restaurant in Syria and much more.

While, Mr. Hani Khalaf Project Manager of Al Waseet Co. For Advertising and Publishing in Egypt was quick to note that Guinness World Records has only scratched the surface as far as world records set in the Arab world are concerned and that the region has the potential for many more world records. Preparations are underway to locate the tallest Egyptian as well as other "firsts" or "mosts" for next year's edition.

He explained that the first seeds for the Guinness Book of World Records were sown in 1951 by Sir Hugh Beaver, a Guinness official at the time, who came up with the idea of a reference for world records while on a hunting trip.

Beaver's idea began to gel when he commissioned Ross and Norris Mcwhirter who ran a fact-finding commission, to compile all available documented records into what would become the Guinness Book of World Records. The first edition was released on August 27, 1955 and quickly topped the list of best-sellers.

From that point onwards, "Guinness World Records TM" has been the undisputed benchmark of all matters pertaining to world records across the globe.
