The computers would then be handed over to Dubai Municipality's Information Technology department for repair and restoration, after which they would be given to schools or eligible non-profit organizations for use in learning.
Speaking on the tie-up with Dubai Municipality, Mr Nilesh Khalkho, Director at Sharaf DG, explained:
"We welcome Dubai Municipality for initiating this wonderful project that has a two-fold benefit of improving the environment by protecting it from the dangers of unwanted waste materials as well as providing knowledge opportunities to the poor and needy of our society."
"As an electronic and IT retail powerhouse, we are determined to step forward and help shoulder the government's efforts in the betterment of our environment and society. We urge the public to show their solidarity and support by donating their unwanted or second hand computers to a good cause," he added.
Strategic partners with Dubai Municipality on this project include Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Foundation, which has been doing outstanding humanitarian and charity service and Microsoft Corporation, which will provide technical support.
The 'Used Computer Made Useful' project will be offering usable computers - CPUs, monitors, scanners, printers and other related IT accessories.
