- Bahrain: Saturday, December 27 - 2008 at 13:51
- PRESS RELEASE
As part of Batelco's mission to attract and retain the best employees, Training and Development Specialist, Catriona Shaw, was invited, for the fifth year running, to participate in a careers evening organised by the Crown Prince's International Scholarship programme (CPISP).
The Careers Talk, which took place at Ibn Khuldoon National School, was attended by 60 students who are this year's CPISP candidates. Following a rigorous selection process, 10 students will be chosen to receive scholarships to study in top international universities.
The CPISP aims to give the brightest, most dedicated and most motivated high school students the opportunity to study at top international universities and colleges. Batelco is a platinum sponsor of the programme and has committed BD1m towards ensuring its success.
The programme, which was initiated by His Highness Shaikh Salman Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince and Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defense Force, is open to young Bahrainis in Government and Private schools. Its aim is to provide the opportunity and financial support to allow those selected to continue their education abroad. It is hoped that this initiative will provide added motivation to high achievers who have their sights set on the top of the career ladder.
To qualify for the programme, scholarship candidates must demonstrate academic excellence and proficiency in the English language, and also be able to provide evidence of extracurricular activities, talents and achievements in areas such as sports, drama, music, public speaking and community service. Once accepted, the candidates who demonstrate the ability, initiative, strength and commitment to be a leader will be provided with a fully funded university placement that includes all fees, travel and living expenses.
Scholarship students are expected to pursue degree programmes that will best serve Bahrain's future needs and are encouraged to pursue the following fields of study: information technology, banking and finance, economics, law and international relations. Students are not restricted, however, to these areas of study, but understand that their chosen career path will serve the interests of the betterment of their country.
