Dubai Municipality organizes two training courses for housewives on foodstuff handling

Dubai Municipality held two training courses and workshops for housewives at Al Towar Library and Zaabeel Park under the awareness campaign called "My dear Madam...your health is in your safe kitchen".

The training courses were well received by ladies, who were briefed on how to choose the best types of foodstuff for the family, safe storage of foodstuff in refrigerators, preparation of different food items, melting process of frozen food, reasons of food poison and the rules and regulations of Dubai Municipality in this regard.

Khalid Sharif Al Awadhi, Director of Food Control Department in the Municipality, who welcomed the participants, said this good initiative from Dubai Municipality comes in the light of the remarks it received on the existence of health problems of housewives by way of handling and preservation of foodstuff.

He said that within this initiative the Municipality will organize a number of training courses that will explain and focus in the important concepts and the right and safe practices in food safety from the stage of foodstuff selection to its preparation and storage.

Al Awadhi said:
"The training will be done through approved and highly competent training organizations and companies in the field of food hygiene and safety. There will be training in different languages aimed at different service categories."


"This has become necessary due to the increase and change in life requirements and the work of women, which calls for service training on the basics of correct handling of food for the sake of protecting the health and safety of the family as well as the society," he said.

Shamsa Gharib, in charge of Food Safety Awareness Unit, who talked about the role of education and its impact on the society, said that awareness on foodstuff will have a deep impact in understanding the various requirements of the society.

"Through these training courses we will be able to present some educational programmes that will support in a big way in explaining the consumer the important concepts and the necessity as well as the essence of services provided by the Food Control Department," she said.

"In addition, it can give guidance to different categories of the society towards the correct and safe ways of preparing foodstuff. As far as the housewives are concerned, they are the central point of the family, who always try to provide hygienic and safe food to their families," said Gharib.

She said that during the participation in organizing awareness courses and lectures in the field of food safety it is found that women are interested to get training in this field. "That is why we have got some international training consultants in food safety to train qualified lady employees. Now, courses are being conducted in Arabic, English, Urdu and Tagalog languages," said Gharib.
