The Organising Committee has put together an exciting programme this year, which will feature live entertainment from local Canadian band 'The Empty Quarter', as well as a performance by the Abu Dhabi Falcons ice hockey team and a quick cardio routine as a pre-Run warm-up. Every dirham raised will be donated to the Faculty of Medicine in the UAE University to fund innovative cancer research projects headed by UAE medical professionals.
"Last year we were able to raise over Dhs775,000 and we expect the figure following the 14th Run to be even higher. Thanks to the continuous support of HE Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, we have been able to fund a number of significant cancer research projects at Al Tawam Hospital in Al Ain, after having raised an overall total of over Dhs4m,"said Farid Dabaghi, Chair of the Abu Dhabi Terry Fox Run Committee.
The open-for-all Run will kick off from the Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel & Resort car park to the Khaleej Al Arabi Road (30th Street) and back. People can walk, run, roller-blade or skateboard, and the course is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers, but cycling will not be permitted due to safety precautions. Registration begins at 8am and the Run itself will start at 10am. Participants are encouraged to arrive early, to enjoy the live programme, soft drinks and sandwiches. Parking will be extremely limited, so participants are encouraged to use public transportation or walk to the site.
