In a bid to provide a platform for key stakeholders involved in managing the region's coastal zones to network, discuss and debate solutions to coastal degradation across the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region, Reed Exhibitions is organizing a specialized conference under the theme 'Sustainable Management for Coastal Zones'. The UAE Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW) is the main partner of the conference.
The Conference will take place in parallel with the ENVIRONMENT 2009 Exhibition, from 20 - 21 January 2009 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. Both the Environment 2009 Exhibition & Conference will be held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The show is co-located with the World Future Energy Summit (WFES).
Currently, more than 40 per cent of the world's population lives within 100km of the coast, a number that is expected to continue rising in the region and around the world.
The Conference will focus on environmental solutions for water, waste and air pollution treatment in the MENA region. Speakers from the UAE and across the globe will share their expertise and will present sustainable solutions on the affected sectors.
The conference has been designed to provide a convergence point for knowledge-exchange, networking and business generation.
Among the topics that will be discussed are: governmental policies related to the management of air, water and waste; challenges and practical solutions in environmental management; strategic planning in air quality management and the role of public-private partnerships in the sector. A number of case studies will be presented at the conference.
Speakers include representatives from leading public and private sector organizations including ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) Abu Dhabi Municipality, , ADWEA (Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority), Gulf Research Centre, Emirates Aluminium, Al Ain Municipality, Mott MacDonald, Qatar Petroleum, the German Engineering Federation and Mouchel.
Attendees at the conference will include officials from the government, NGOs (non-governmental organizations), environmental agencies, policy makers, auditors and managers of emissions regulatory authorities, educators and environmentalists, corporate and municipal planners, professionals and decision-makers from energy, water management, waste management, pollution treatment and recycling sectors.
