Du sponsors third Public Private Partnership Programme 2009

The Sharjah Tatweer Forum today announced the launch of its third Public Private Partnership Program (PPP) in collaboration with Du, the UAE's integrated telecom service provider and the official telecom partner and sponsor of the 2009 PPP Programme.

The Public Private Partnership (PPP) Programme aims at fostering cooperation between the various sectors and enhancing the role of the private sector in the economic and social activities of the Emirate as well as promoting the opportunities in Sharjah in the fields of culture, commerce, industry and tourism.

The cooperation between Du and Sharjah Tatweer Forum underscores the concept of partnerships between the various sectors. It also highlights the corporate responsibility of private sector companies and its role in increasing the overall competitiveness and sustainable development of Sharjah through bold initiatives.

Hussain Al Mahmoudi, Chairman of Sharjah Tatweer Forum highlighted the developments regarding this year's PPP Programme and its content, the continued support and patronage of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and the Honorary Chairman of Sharjah Tatweer Forum for the Programme and Sharjah Tatweer Forum as well as the Forum achievements and activities over the past period. The third PPP Programme will include among the participants, over 24 government department directors and general managers from the private sector.

The past two Public Private Partnership Programs held by Sharjah Tatweer Forum have been deemed successful in line with international standards and best practices and also on basis of the testimonials and positive feedback received from all the participants. The programme has also succeeded in advancing cooperation between the private and public sectors and encouraging the private sector to take up a greater role in the economic and social activities of the Emirate.

The third Public Private Partnership Programme will continue until June with six sessions that will include activities ranging from field visits, analytical exercises and team work in addition to lectures by experts and guest speakers.

Sharjah Tatweer Forum was formed by a decree issued by H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and the Honorary Chairman of Sharjah Tatweer Forum.

The Forum aims at cultivating alliances with international institutions with the aim of developing the skills and competencies of National youth in Sharjah, forging effective collaboration between the private and public sectors, and encouraging entrepreneurship, innovation and excellence in business and administration that will ultimately ensure the emirate's overall progress.

About Du
Du, the integrated telecom service provider in the UAE, was awarded the second license to operate fixed and mobile telecommunications services in February 2006. The company launched its 'Du' brand in the same month and listed 20% of its shares on the Dubai Financial Market in April 2006.
