Senior Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon joins Dubai Bone and Joint Center

Dubai Bone and Joint Center (DBAJ), the Middle East's first and only center for musculoskeletal treatment and research, have announced the appointment of Dr. Michael J. A. van Steijn as Senior Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon to add to their elite team of specialized doctors.

Dr. Michael J. A. van Steijn, M.D. and Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon joins DBAJ after working as a Senior Staff Member at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University Hospital at Maastricht (azM) in the Netherlands for the last 9 years where he was affiliated to the hemophiliac treatment center and the department of rheumatology performing over 900 primary and revision total knee replacements besides more than 300 knee reconstructions for sports medicine.

Dr. van Steijn specializes in knee surgery (arthroplasty, revision arthroplasty and navigation), sports medicine (trauma, reconstruction, instability and cartilage repair), hand surgery / rheumatoid arthritis and trauma surgery.

Dr. van Steijn's previous work experience in UAE includes working at Mafraq hospital and at Dubai Hospital as a visiting surgeon for knee reconstruction and sports medicine.

Having completed his Medicine and Doctoral Degree at University of Amsterdam in 1990, Dr. van Steijn pursued general surgery at Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis in Amsterdam from 1994-1996 and completed his medical study from the University of Amsterdam besides conducting research at the University of Vermont, USA. In 1998 he worked as Fellow at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York with a focus on knee reconstructive surgery. Dr. van Steijn also went to the Kingdom of Bhutan in 1996 under the Orthopedic Overseas, Division of Health Volunteers Overseas Development Program and to Klinik Gut in St. Moritz, Switzerland both for trauma surgery. He has also served as Consultant Sports Medicine at MVV Football Club, Netherlands besides lecturing at the Medical Curriculum at the University of Maastricht.

Dr. van Steijn has authored various publications related to orthopedics besides speaking at various conferences and seminars across the globe.
