International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation initiates and sponsors the "Turkish Day"

The International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC), an autonomous entity within the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group, sponsored the "Turkish Day" event, which was held on Wednesday 24th of December 2008 in the Islamic Development Bank headquarters in Jeddah.

The event witnessed the presence of the Consul General for the Republic of Turkey in Jeddah and the attendance of a large number of businessmen from diverse nationalities and Turkish community. The attendees were taken through numerous of programs that included an informative presentation on the current climate of trading and tourism sectors in the Republic of Turkey, as well as an exhibition for traditional Turkish commodities, in addition to a number of shows to reflect the Turkish cultural and folkloric customs.

Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Ali, ITFC COB and head of IDB Group, commented in this occasion saying:
"This event came as the outset of 'Know My Country'; the ITFC's recent initiative to hold a series of awareness events that focus on the promotion of all aspects of cultural, social and economic development of member countries."


Highlighting the scope of "Know My Country" campaign, engineer Hani Sonbol, ITFC Deputy CEO went on saying: "Our aim is to further grow intra-trade financing between member countries in order to bring economic and social prosperity and to boost economic development, and we believe that such initiative would transcend barriers and help to closely explore and exploit trade and investment opportunities in these countries".

During 1429, ITFC executed trade finance operation activities in the Republic of Turkey alone amounting to a total of $103m. The ITFC promotes intra-trade among OIC member countries and provides funds for productive development that leads to job creation and capacity building through skills transfers and technical assistance to increase prosperity and raise standards of living.
