Titled "Thinking Cloud," the debate is one of a series of open forums discussing current arts and culture issues, created in 2007 by Art Dubai and START. The forums have already been held in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and London and now have come to Sharjah to further promote it as the cultural capital of the Northern Emirates.

The panel debate will be with other UAE leaders in culture and art including: Manal Ataya, Director General, Sharjah Museums Department; Mishaal Al Gergawi, Projects and Events Manager, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority; and Hoda Al Khamis-Kanoo, Founder, Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation. It will begin at 4pm and is open to the public.

Manal Ataya, Director General, Sharjah Museums Department said:
"The debate is being held at a time when people are reflecting more on heritage and culture, and the focus on consumerism is dwindling. Interest in art and culture has been impacted in recent years in the wake of competition from glitzy malls, consumerism and technology. This debate among leading minds in arts and culture will provide guidance on how arts and culture can develop in the future and how it will help to preserve a strong national identity while dealing with modernity."

The Sharjah Museums Department, established in 2006 by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, aims to promote the emirates rich legacy of arts, heritage and culture.
