RJ aircraft carries medical supplies donated by employees to Gaza
- Jordan: Thursday, January 08 - 2009 at 17:05
- PRESS RELEASE
At noon today, Royal Jordanian freighter took off from Queen Alia International Airport for Al Arish Airport, in Egypt.
RJ President/CEO Samer Majali said that RJ is keen to respond to all His Majesty's calls in this regard. He also pointed out that the airline is prepared to carry for free food and medical assistance for Gazans to Amman, from any of the countries covered by the RJ route network. And the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization will be in charge of sending the supplies to those affected in Gaza Strip.
Majali stressed that the airline's employees, through the General Union of Air Transport and Tourism, took the initiative of offering one day of pay to purchase medical and relief supplies. The company's management, he said, dedicated an Airbus A310 freighter to carry the assistance via Al Arish Airport, after having obtained permission from the Egyptian authorities through the Jordanian ambassador to Cairo.
According to Majali, this RJ move follows His Majesty King Abdullah's call to lend support to the injured in Gaza Strip who are suffering from the relentless Israeli offensive. It is, at the same time, part of the continuous Jordanian efforts to provide all kind of aid to the brethren in Gaza.
Head of the General Union of Air Transport and Tourism Bilal Malkawi expressed gratitude to all Royal Jordanian employees for their response to the union's call to donate one day pay, which resulted in operating this good-will flight. He also expressed appreciation to Royal Jordanian's management for operating the flight for free in order to transport humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
Malkawi said that the union's initiative to donate one day pay comes in line with the efforts extended by the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions, and in response to His Majesty King Abdullah's calls to offer all possible support to Gazans.
