60 renowned international security experts to convene in Dubai

Intersec International Trade Fair and Conference 2009 is the Middle East region's largest Security, Fire, Safety & Health and Police & Homeland Security Exhibition.

Dr. bin Fahad's keynote will deal with crisis and risk management. 'Crisis is a fact of life and how an organization or a country prepares for crisis determines its eventual impact,' he stated. 'If recent events have taught us anything, it is that we must be prepared to react to crisis in a timely and efficient manner as any crisis is a turning point and it is a fact of life,' Dr. bin Fahad stressed.

'Those individuals and organizations that prepare for the unforeseen tend to remain calm and proactive during times of crisis and greatly limit the ability of that crisis to do permanent damage. Those that are less prepared suffer,'

Dr. bin Fahad observed.

There are four focused areas within the Intersec exhibition, to allow buyers to navigate the show more easily and source the products and services. The four sections are: Commercial Security & Information Security, Homeland Security, Counter Terrorism & Policing, Fire and Rescue and Safety & Health

Brigadier Dr. bin Fahad will lead a high calibre panel of speakers and leading experts and a diverse group of officials at the conference. The conference and trade fair will provide the experts with an unparalleled opportunity to network and exchange information and best practices in fire safety, health, homeland security, policing, civil defense and information security.

We also have Dr.Theodore Karasik, Director of Research and Development at the Institute for Near East and Gulf Military Analysis who will speak about modern piracy and Peter French, Senior Visiting Fellow to the American University of Washington DC and appointed Lecturer on Counter Terrorism and Security to the US State Department,' she added

On the topic of Information Security, the chair will be Dr. Eng. Oliver Weissmann. He has a long term experience in information security and cryptography as well as in standardization. Dr. Weissmann was one of the editors in the revision process of IS 27002:2007 (formerly IS 17799:2005) and is currently one of the editors in IS 27000 'Terms and Conditions' and 27003 'ISMS Implementation Guidance'.

Dr. Weissmann is responsible for the consulting of strategic information security within TUV Rheinland. He and his team support customers in the definition of security goals, risk assessments and ISMS implementation as well as in audits.

Also speaking on the subject of Industrial Espionage will be Thomas Koenigshofen, Senior Vice President Group Business Security of Deutsche Telekom AG, Germany. The title of his presentation is What's it all about? Introduction to the importance of information.

The fascinating subject of disguises and world of cloak and dagger is guaranteed to set on fire the imagination of conference attendees in this year's conference subject of Homeland Security, Counter-Terrorism, Policing and Law Enforcement which will be held on the 19th and 20th January, 2009.

This conference section will have global experts and international and regional authorities outlining international perspectives on today's issues, addressing challenges and opportunities the international community faces in times of increased risks from terrorism and serious organised crime. The focus will be on border protection, supply chain security and the protection of critical infrastructure.

Mr Steve Collins will give a presentation on Weapons Awareness and Recognition. With particular emphasis on disguised and stealth weapons that have been manufactured, adapted or improvised to evade detection by authorities.

He says. 'It makes absolutely no difference whatsoever how much sophisticated state-of-the-art detection equipment you may have at your fingertips. If you have not trained your security personnel in what the weapons they are searching for look like, they won't find them, and that is an unacceptable situation when living in the shadow of increasing weapons related violence and terrorist threats.'

Steve Collins is the CEO of PS5, an internationally acclaimed specialist security consultancy and training provider to the law enforcement, defence and security industries worldwide. The company's training wing 'REACT' delivers highly specialised training protocols to professionals operating across the private and public sectors with specific focus on weapons awareness and personal protection from violence, aggressive behaviour and terrorism.

In order to carry out certain aspects of its work, the company has been granted a UK Government/Home Office Authority directly approved by the Secretary of State in the UK.

Maritime Security and Modern Piracy: The Effects of Somali Piracy on the Arab World will be another hot subject and of particular relevance in the Middle East.

This presentation will focus on the GCC and Arab response to rising incidence of piracy in Somalia. Clearly, no mechanism for maritime security in the region can be effective without the co-operation and participation of the citizens and states of the Arabian Peninsula and other surrounding Arab states.

Presenting on this subject will be Dr. Theodore Karasik who is currently the Director of Research and Development at the Institute for Near East and Gulf Military Analysis in Dubai, UAE and Beirut, Lebanon. Karasik was a Senior Political Scientist in the International Policy and Security Group at RAND Corporation. From 2002-2003, he served as Director of Research for the RAND Center for Middle East Public Policy. He has worked on Arabian Peninsula issues for 17 years and on security and terrorism issues. In addition to his work on the Middle East, Dr. Karasik is also an expert on Russia, Central Asia, and the Caucasus as well as transnational terrorist groups and criminals.
