Human Resources students have previously travelled to the Americas, Australasia and Asia. The trip to Italy this year enhanced students' understanding of Human Resources practices in Europe and provided students with an excellent opportunity to compare human resources practices worldwide.
Students visited Santa Caterina da Siena College and Collegio Nuovo in Pavia; and Temple University and John Cabot University in Rome where they delivered a presentation on the role of Emirati women in the development of the United Arab Emirates and the process of Emiratization and human resource challenges. At Collegio Nuovo, students also participated in a discussion forum on women and work and were able to highlight the major milestones accomplished recently by Emirati women in the UAE's workforce.
In a presentation attended by Jassim Al Jasmi from the Office of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, DWC students outlined the educational benefits and the learning outcomes of their study visit to Italy.
"Through supporting our students in trips like this, we are encouraging them to develop their knowledge and meet with people from many different cultures. This allows for an exchange of ideas and opportunities that you might not get through staying in your own country; such as learning about history, language, social aspects and culture,"
Jassim noted.
DWC introduces ISTs to its students in order to help achieve several learning outcomes including global awareness, self-management and life-long learning, teamwork and leadership, vocational competencies, and communication and information literacy.
"This trip to Italy has made me more aware of my hidden abilities related to leadership and problem solving. During the six days, I have learned the importance of working in teams and the joy of accomplishing the tasks together," noted Yasmin Ibrahim, DWC student.
The study trip provided students with the opportunity to learn about HR best practices in areas such as recruitment, employee retention and incentive plans from companies based in Italy. It provided them with the opportunity to understand and appreciate other cultures and people from different areas.
"As people from across the world become increasingly interdependent we must all recognize that we live in a global community. This international trip to Italy has exposed our HR students to an extraordinary experience of understanding and appreciating other cultures and the HR challenges faced by the European countries," noted Dr Syed Bashir, Business Faculty.
Students also got to visit several Italian cultural places such as Coliseum, Pantheon, Vatican Museum, and San Peter's Basilica in Rome.
