Given the prevalent challenges - particularly the aftermath of the global financial meltdown, the world food shortage and the Gaza crisis - Kuwait recognizes that any strategy for our future should adopt a balanced approach, where all socio-economic forces work together to maintain a positive equilibrium.
Citing the advancement made by Kuwait since its founding in 1961, Mr Mohammad Abdullah Abul Hasan adds:
"Our progress has been dynamic and is the result of sound judgement and foresight of our leaders, and the shared vision of our people."
The country has been committed to balance its economic and social priorities. Despite embracing economic liberalization, Kuwait has retained its distinct cultural heritage. It implemented timely anti-inflationary measures by being the first Arab state to depeg its currency from the dollar. It is moving towards a diversified economy and institutionalized the Kuwait Fund exclusively for future generations. Incidentally, the Arab Economic, Social and Development Summit has been envisioned by His Highness The Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the state of Egypt.
"Our growth today is microcosmic of the challenges and opportunities in the region. As a country that shares the aspirations of the Arab states, we're honoured to host the Arab Economic, Social and Development Summit", says Mr Mohammad Abdullah Abul Hasan. "We are keen to partner with Arab states to find balanced solutions that will build a promising future for our people and enable us to collectively play an increasingly significant role in global economic and social progress."
While leaders and key figures of Arab states deliberate over economic, social and development issues ahead of the Summit, the people of the Arab region are being engaged to voice their concerns, hopes and priorities. 'Dialogue' - Arab Economic Summit website - solicits and illustrates the views of eminent public figures across business enterprises in the private sector; social, educational and scientific organizations; journalists; as well as the youth and citizens. The YouTube channel enables the people of the Arab region to post videos stating what they aspire towards and questions that they would like to pose to Arab leaders at the Summit.
The Summit will be preceded by the Arab Private Sector and Civil Life Forum - being held in Kuwait by the Arab League over January 17th and 18th - which will further aim to render the Arab Summit a true reflection of the aspirations of the Arab world.
