- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, January 15 - 2009 at 14:05
- PRESS RELEASE
Public Transport Agency at Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) revealed that work is up and running according to schedule in the strategic initiative of introducing intelligent systems to all public transport buses.
Essa Abdul-Rahman Al-Dossari, CEO of RTA Public Transport Agency, said that the intelligent systems currently undertaken by the Agency, a major component of Bus Master Plan, include Automated Vehicle Management, Automated Fare Collection, Journey Planner, Automated Passenger Counting, and Real Time Passenger Information systems.
"These systems play an effective role in enabling Public Transport Agency to streamline & track bus movement to ensure arrival at stations on the scheduled timings. They also make travelling on board public buses safe and smooth to all as the three types of buses imported by the RTA (standard, articulated & double-deckers) are among the best and most luxurious brands worldwide. Such intelligent systems are controlled by Operation Control Center at Public Transport Agency.
"Before embarking in implementing these systems, the Agency conducted several studies and surveys in association with leading and specialized companies, where it has been agreed to adopt the best practices used in the intelligent systems of public transport in keeping with the massive development witnessed by the UAE in all fields.
"The intelligent systems, currently being introduced and upgraded by Public Transport Agency, will be subjected to a trial run for several months to identify their strong and weak points so that their performance can be improved and enhanced to the best possible manner.
