A special ceremony was held to commemorate the million-visitor milestone. Mazda's executive vice president, Takashi Yamanouchi, greeted the guests and presented all the students and teachers with a miniature model of the Mazda MX-5 to mark the occasion.
The Mazda Museum draws an average of 70,000 visitors per year. Permanent attractions include a technical exhibition on the rotary engine - which only Mazda mass produces - and displays on the company's latest technologies. Another section showcases the development history of Mazda's eco-friendly hydrogen vehicles. Visitors can also get an up-close look at vehicles being built on a working assembly line in an adjoining plant as part of the museum tour. By providing the opportunity to study the automotive industry in depth, the Mazda Museum has become a popular destination for elementary and junior high school social studies fieldtrips, as well as for the general public.
