This recognition culminates the ongoing efforts of the RTA to maintain high levels of safety and readiness to cope with any emergency. These efforts received a big boost following the establishment of a new specialized Risk Management Center.
The Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA H.E. Mattar Al Tayer was delighted with according this international recognition to the RTA and said: "This credit demonstrates the integrity of RTA methodology aiming to provide & maintain safety in all projects & plans. It also recognizes RTA efforts in the field of safety & risk management, and illustrates its commitment to apply the standards of corporate governance and associated legal implications. RTA recently approved Crises and Disasters Management System that empowers RTA to cope with disasters and crises in a way to ensure conservation of lives, properties and the environment as well as minimizing the negative impact of crises and disasters on the image of the government in general and RTA in particular. The System also seeks to ensure sound discharge of RTA business and affiliated road & transport systems."
Al Tayer added: "RTA established Crises and Risk Management Center; which is equipped with all means of communication such as internet-connected computers, telephones, fax, office machinery, and independent power generators (alternative energy supply). A media center of Crises and Risk Management will also be established comprising a press conference room, communication means (such as internet-connected computers, telephones and fax), display monitors, and office machinery.
"RTA is committed to the effective management of crises that might impact its services, agencies or sectors through identifying and assessing all potential risks that might trigger crises in the course of processing transactions and delivering services. This will safeguard lives, environment and properties of the RTA in particular and the emirate of Dubai in general. The Center will see to it that all corporate governance standards and associated legal implications have been fully adhered to.
Following receipt of the Certificate of Recognition from the IRMBA (Middle East) in a conference held at Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai, Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Younes, CEO of RTA Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector said: "RTA Crises and Disasters System comprises procedures that include handling the legal requirements, assessment, evaluation, training, communication, follow-up and performance measurement of crises & disasters. It also provides for taking corrective and preventative measures, internal audits and senior management reviews of crises & disasters system. The System also entails procedures related to the financial & administrative aspects of crises & disasters, as well as dealing with emergency agencies (Police, Civil Defence & Ambulance) and the code of conduct with RTA contractors".
Abdul Mohsen further added:
"Compliance with Health and Occupational Safety in RTA projects is one of the core values that cannot be compromised or indulged under any circumstances. The Team will report to H.E. the Chairman of the Board & Executive Director of the RTA on the progress of remedial measures taken to cope with crises and consequential effects."
