UAE signs air services MoU with Tunisian Civil Aviation Authority

The United Arab Emirates represented by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) signed an Air Services Memorandum of Understanding with the Tunisian Civil Aviation Authority on 13th January 2009 in Tunis, to increase flights between the two countries.

The MoU was signed by Omar Bin Ghaleb, The Deputy Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Hamadi Bin Khalifa, Director General of the Department of Civil Aviation of Tunis. Representatives from Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, Dubai Civil Aviation, Sharjah Civil Aviation, Emirates airline and Etihad Airways, attended the meeting.

The UAE Delegation designated in addition to Emirates Airline; Etihad Airways, Air Arabia, RAK Airways and Fly Dubai as UAE national Airlines. The Tunisian Delegation designated Tunisian Airline, New Fly and Qartage airline as the Designated Airlines of the Republic of Tunis under the signed Memorandum.

According to the MoU, the designated airline of Abu Dhabi (Etihad airways) will operate (4) weekly passengers flights from Abu Dhabi to Tunis, to be increased to (5) weekly flights by 2010, and up to (7) weekly flights by 2011 .

The designated airlines of Dubai (Emirates and Fly Dubai) will operate up to (8) weekly passengers services by 2010. Currently Emirates Airline operates (7) weekly flights to Tunis.

Both delegations agreed during the meeting to modify articles in the Air Services Agreement related to code share, Safety and Tariffs.
