DHA begins registration process for physicians in Dubai
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, January 18 - 2009 at 14:03
- PRESS RELEASE
The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has begun issuing all physicians working in Dubai, from across both the private and public sector, with their new registration login and password details, enabling physicians to apply for their new DHA license to practice.
This will help co-ordinate and drive the quality of care across the healthcare sector as well as creating a more transparent and accountable licensing process. Other allied healthcare professionals will undergo a similar process but as part of a phased programme. These details will be announced later this year.
The current registration process is estimated to affect 5,000 physicians currently practising in Dubai. In line with appropriate confidentiality concerns the process requires every physician to come in person to collect their login details which will enable them to access the new online application process established by the DHA health regulation team from February 1st. Each physician will need to complete this application form in order to secure a new license.
The registration process will be hosted at the Al Murooj Rotana hotel. Registration details can be collected between the hours of 10.00hrs and 18.00hrs everyday. Once the login details have been obtained, physicians have until the 31st March 2009 to submit their application forms to the DHA.
The new license of those physicians who meet the new criteria will be automatic. Physicians who do not meet the criteria will also get new licenses and will be asked to achieve the required criteria and/or undertake specified further training that is intended to be available locally and adequate time will be given. The DHA will help to train and support these applicants to help them achieve the minimum requirements set by DHA health regulation to continue to practice in Dubai.
Dr Essa Kazim, the Director responsible for the health regulation programme at the DHA said, "This is an important process as the DHA looks to drive the quality of care that the public can expect. We currently have ten licensing organisations in Dubai which does not encourage an efficient or effective regulatory process moving forward. In partnership with these authorities our responsibility is to help support the healthcare sector to deliver higher standards, creating a more transparent and accountable system in the process. This will encourage more interest and investment in the healthcare sector as we look to manage and develop the future growth in healthcare services and facilities across Dubai."
