- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, December 11 - 2001 at 14:17
- PRESS RELEASE
DaimlerChrysler Middle East has reported a 5 per cent annual increase in November 2001 Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep sales compared to last year helped by buoyant sales results in its SUV and passenger car lines in Qatar, Kuwait and Oman.
"Our Chrysler Sebring mid-size family sedan is tracking at 121% above its 2000 level, while the award-winning Grand Voyager continues to prove why it is the region's leading minivan with an annual increase of 21%."
Qatar recorded the region's best sales increase with a 55% year-on-year increase thanks to buoyant sales by United Cars Almana.
It is closely followed by Kuwait, where Behbehani Jeep Motors reported a 56% rise in November sales, while Chrysler/Dodge distributor Bader Al Mulla posted an increase of 22% above the same period last year.
In Oman, Chrysler/Dodge distributor Zubair Automotive doubled its November sales compared to last year, and Shanfari Automotive's November results helped Jeep sales hit a 55% year-on-year increase.
In the region's 4x4 segment, sales of the Jeep icon, the Wrangler, are 21% over the same period last year. The new Jeep Cherokee, after only a month in the market, is establishing itself as a contender in the true off-road SUV segment and the powerful and capable seven-seater Dodge Durango continues to perform strongly particularly with active families.
"Despite the steam being taken out of the region's automobile market following the September 11 tragedy and some disappointing November numbers there are some bright spots in our performance and we remain on track to achieve a double digit sales increase in the Middle East due to our new range of high quality cars and SUVs," added Glorius.
