The recognition of various individuals, businesses and organizations engaged in the development of new and sustainable energy initiatives, is just one of the tools EEA uses to achieve its goals.
EEA also supports a number of programs that not only encourage the development of professional management skills, but increase awareness surrounding the efficient use of energy and its role in supporting sustainable growth in the UAE.
Dr. Abdullah Al Amiri, Chairman of the Emirates Energy Awards, said:
"Countries throughout the world are constantly seeking to identify alternative sources of energy and new technologies, in particular those that can reduce our impact on the environment. As such, there arose a need to increase the amount of private investments available to support the development of new, cleaner, energy sources. This is especially relevant considering the fact that yearly individual energy consumption throughout the world has increased to reach 45 barrels annually, between the years of 1999 to 2009."
"Considering this, we see how important it is to increase international awareness of energy consumption, to monitor consumption rates, to secure alternative energy sources, and to encourage research aimed at doing so. We at the Emirates Energy Awards take great pride in supporting the efforts of our wise leaders who constantly seek to place the UAE at the forefront of developing and supporting new energy technologies," added Al Amiri.
The Award is divided into six categories; Energy Award for Government Institutions, Energy Award for Private Institutions, Energy Engineer Award, Big Energy Projects Award, Small Energy Projects Awards and Research and Education Award. Additionally, a special arts award will be presented to the UAE school that best presents their ideas on how to preserve energy and build strong urban communities.
H. H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, held a meeting earlier this year with an EEA delegation, lead by Dr. Abdullah Al Amiri, Chairman of Emirates Energy Awards, Dr. Wafi Dawood, Dubai Quality Group Chairman, Mr. Marwan Al Suwalih, Dubai Quality Group Chairman of Honor, and Mrs. Samiya Al Yusuf, Dubai Quality Group Executive Manager. The various scheduled EEA events, as well as 2009 plans, were discussed during the meeting.
