Pioneering health technology: IBW at Arab Health
- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, January 20 - 2009 at 09:46
- PRESS RELEASE
With a highly regarded biotechnology sector already operating in Wales and employing more than 15,000 people, International Business Wales (IBW) returns to Arab Health for the third year.
Cardiff University, one of the top universities in the United Kingdom and home to the academic centre of excellence - the 'Wound Healing Research Unit' - has helped establish the Welsh bioscience sector as one of the best in the world. Last year the University's Sir Martin Evans received the Nobel Prize for his pioneering work in stem cell research.
IBW has been attending Arab Health since 2007 and thanks to their efforts has introduced many Welsh companies to the Middle Eastern and wider Asian and African markets. From these encounters a host of revolutionary products have been developed, such as the foetal heart rate monitor from Ultrasound Technologies, designed specifically to cope with conditions in the developing world.
Returning to Arab Health for their second year is Magstim, one of only three companies worldwide that manufacture Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation technology and as such work closely with the worldwide research community on leading-edge research and educational initiatives.
Lee Jennings, Vice President (Middle East) of International Business Wales, comments: "In Wales alone the bioscience sector is worth around £1.3bn (US$1.9bn). By giving Welsh companies the opportunity to showcase their products in other markets we hope to expand the growth of this sector while increasing our trade ties with other countries.
"Arab Health 2008 was a very successful show for us, with many of the exhibiting companies signing deals and making important contacts. We are confident that this years exhibition will be as rewarding and are looking forward to our continued work in the Middle East."
