DWC Aviation City key to regional MRO growth
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, January 21 - 2009 at 13:51
- PRESS RELEASE
Dubai World Central (DWC) Aviation City will cater to the Middle East's burgeoning MRO industry as international experts predict that it will have the fastest ten-year annual growth rate of 8.9%, in comparison with the industry's annual average of 3.6%.
"In spite of the seemingly gloomy forecasts made by international aviation bodies, specifically on commercial aviation, the global MRO business is still expected to experience significant growth," said Abdulla Al Qurashi, CEO, DWC Aviation City.
"More importantly, the Middle East, having been predicted as the region to have the highest annual MRO growth rate, the business proposition of DWC Aviation City is indeed at the right place and at the right time. Our participation at the MRO Middle East event not only allows us to present DWC Aviation City's value proposition to key MRO operators, but also to discuss the challenges and prospects of the industry's future so that together we may fully realize that potential for further growth," he added
Key industry reports quote that the region's fleet for 2015 will grow by 53% over 2005 figures.
"With a former global trend of 80% of all third-party airline maintenance work staying in the operator's region and with regional airlines significantly increasing their capacities by 2015, the regional MRO business is riding on the crest of a wave," explained Al Qurashi.
As Platinum Sponsor of the MRO Middle East event, DWC Aviation City underscored its support to Dubai's future growth as a vital hub for the Middle East MRO business. This was also evident by the participation of over 100 global and regional companies at the show.
DWC Aviation City's unique concept of establishing a complete aviation cluster in one area within Dubai World Central captured the world's attention when it was launched over a year ago.
The 8.6 square kilometre $5bn project has been carefully designed and master planned to become the region's premier centre of excellence for aviation manufacturing, MRO, aviation support services and consultancy, research and development, training, aviation products and parts and high tech industries.
The development lies adjacent to DWC-Al Maktoum International Airport - set to become the world's largest airport with capacities of 150 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo annually.
