GASA holds annual meeting in Muscat

Oman Air will be hosting the 72nd annual meeting for Gulf Airports Services Association (GASA) on 21st January 2009 at hotel Grand Hyatt Muscat, under the chairmanship of Mazen Al Amad, Senior Manager Ground Operation, Oman Air.

The association was established in April 1978 and the first meeting was hosted by Oman Air (before Oman Aviation Services) in Oman on 30th May 1978. An active member of GASA, Oman Air has always been in the forefront of the association meetings and initiatives.

GASA members meet every year, to discuss issues and latest trends in the aviation industry and to make necessary changes to make the airports in the Arabian Gulf gear up for the increasing volume of traffic and make it among the best in the world. The previous editions of the GASA had reviewed latest airport systems and ground handling equipments in handling aircrafts at the international airports with conclusive decisions taken in this regard.

This year's meeting will be attended by GASA members and directors of the gulf airports representatives from Abu Dhabi Airport Services (ADAS), Dubai National Air Travel Agency (DNATA), Bahrain Airport Services (BAS), Fujairah International Airport (FIA), Kuwait Aviation Services (KASCO), Qatar National Travel (QNT), Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), United Aircraft Services Co. Ltd. (UNASCO), Ras Al Khaimah International Airport (RIA), National Airport Services (NAS-based in Kuwait) and Oman Air.

Commenting on the event, Mazen Al Amad Oman Air's Senior Manager Ground Operation said that although the airports in the region compete with each other for business in a healthy way, they also work together to achieve a common goal and that is to attract more airlines, discuss the latest technology in Passenger Services and Ramp Services.

GASA has managed to be recognized by the international aviation conference and known as one of the active association in the middle east and gulf region.

Corporate Communications and Media adds that since inception, the Association has attracted more members.

"Most of the airports in the region have realised the importance of a coordinated action stemming out of the joined efforts of a committee such as this and have become members of GASA. It is a heartening fact to note that the airports in this region are increasingly becoming popular for their world-class facilities and services. With the number of passengers using this region's airports and aircrafts increasing many fold, the role of GASA gets all the more important. The member airports of GASA through their integrated efforts have accomplished many feats that have helped development of the standard of services to the passengers and other transiting aircrafts at the airports," he said.
