The event kicked off with a documentary movie showing the importance of energy saving, the methods in which it can be preserved and the role played by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed, in pushing the sustainable growth onward by establishing environmentally-friendly projects and supporting all efforts related energy saving.
This was followed by a speech given by Dr Wafi Dawood, Dubai Quality Group Chairman, praising the important role of the Award and the huge success it has been in the short time since its establishment. He also praised the staff working on the Award, highlighting the Award as one the most active institutions in the country, with its diverse activities, renewed concepts and its reach outside the local and regional surroundings.
Dr Abdalla Al Amiri, Chairman of Emirates Energy Awards, also gave a speech, praising the insight of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed.
He said:
"Our leading country is the first to support international efforts for energy saving principles. This is manifested in H.H. Sheikh Mohammed's visionary policies, which display a deep insight into the issues that concern experts in the fields of architecture, science, environment, harmony with international trends toward energy saving, and the development of alternate energy sources to maintain a clean environment with less thermal radiation. Ignoring these issues can lead to land skidding during wars, famines, dry seasons, floods, and other natural disasters against which man is powerless."
Al Amiri concluded his speech by talking about the activities that the Award had carried out, including forums, workshops, participating in conferences abroad and hosting a number of related activities, as well as making plans for expansion outside of the country after several international companies, including some from the leading developed countries, expressed their interest in joining the Award.
Dubai Quality Group and Emirates Energy Award thanked the sponsors for their efforts and continuous support. This was followed by a speech presented by H.E. Mr. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, as the main sponsor of the award ceremony. Mr Al Tayer spoke of the important role of DEWA and its participation in this Award, which he described as a big responsibility and a worthy challenge befitting the status of the country. "DEWA was honored to sponsor the Award and play a role in fulfilling H.H. Sheikh Mohammed's vision to establish a basis for sustainable growth, alongside the other participating institutions, in a manner that secures the future of the coming generations and guarantees progress and success for our country."
At the end of the event, the Awards were presented to the winners, sponsors and people who contributed to the activities of the Award. The Award was divided into six categories; with DEWA winning the Energy Award for Government Institutions, TECOM investments winning the Energy Award for Private Institutions, Eng. Fotouh Abdul Aziz Al Raqom of the Kuwaiti Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) collecting the Energy Engineer Award, DUBAL collecting the Big Energy Projects Award, Nakheel Asset Management winning the Small Energy Projects Awards, and KISR picking up the Research and Education Award.
