RTA Public Transport Agency commutes more than 94m passengers in 2008

The Public Transport Agency at Roads and Transport Authority revealed that till the end of last year it managed to commute more than 94m passengers in more than 2m trips by public transport buses operating over 85 routes.

The CEO of Public Transport Agency Essa Abdul-Rahman Al-Dossari stated:

"The Agency is continuously working on upgrading public bus services through deploying a number of new buses in service, comprising standard buses, articulated buses and double-deck buses imported from the world's best manufacturers. The aim is to provide a coverage spanning 95% of Dubai area in less than three years and raise the percentage of trips made by mass transit modes up to 30% by 2020"


Last year RTA purchased 620 buses including 170 double-deckers, 300 articulated buses and 150 standard buses. Public Transport Agency is continuously taking delivery of the three types of buses and beefing up its current bus fleet.

Public Transport Agency always seeks to upgrade its business by offering a host of innovative solutions stemming out of the strategic initiatives unleashed by the RTA in the drive to realize its vision of providing safe and smooth transport for all.

The Agency is also working on upgrading the quality of services rendered to the public to rise up to the regional and global status of Dubai, and the growth witnessed by the emirate in all vital commercial, economic, service, financial, real estate, and tourist fields.

To ensure the delivery of best services to the users of public buses, the Agency is always keen to upgrade the caliber of service offered to bus commuters such that bus transport will be express and secure.

The Agency is also keen on applying the modern systems in use worldwide in this field such as introducing smart systems, improving the efficiency & effectiveness of operation, assessing bus requirements & technical specifications, identifying the proper infrastructure, improving the quality of public data, and marketing & utilizing the technological alternatives.

It will also build several new stations, bus depots, maintenance yards, and the air-conditioned bus shelters; which is the first project of its kind worldwide.
